Job summary

Materion is seeking a Forge Assistant to support daily forging operations, preparing materials, aiding forge operators, and ensuring equipment readiness for high-quality metal components.

You will monitor conditions, perform basic maintenance, and participate in continuous improvement and safety initiatives within the forge department. Prior manufacturing experience is helpful but not required; lifting up to 35 pounds is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior manufacturing or metalworking experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to work in high-heat environments and lift up to 35 pounds.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Willingness to learn forge equipment operation and follow standardized processes.
• Reliable, team-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist forge operators with setup, operation, and shutdown of forging equipment.
• Prepare raw materials and ensure proper loading and positioning for forging processes.
• Inspect materials for defects or irregularities prior to forging.
• Monitor forge area conditions, including temperature, equipment function, and safety compliance.
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic maintenance of forge tools and machinery.
• Transport materials using forklifts or other approved equipment (training provided if needed).
• Record production data accurately and communicate any issues or abnormalities to supervisors.
• Support continuous improvement, quality, and safety initiatives within the forge department.
• Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and operational procedures.
