Job summary

The North Carolina Forest Service is hiring an Assistant County Ranger to assist with forestry services for landowners and engage in forest education programs. The role includes wildfire suppression planning, coordinating with partners, and traveling as needed to support emergency responses across Robeson County.

Minimum education includes an associate degree in forestry or equivalent, with residency in Lumberton, NC. Training and a state vehicle are provided to support daily duties.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or equivalent required with forestry experience considered.
• Experience in forestry services or related field preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with servicing landowner requests for forestry assistance.
• Assist with programs to promote the importance of trees and tree care in urban settings.
• Provide and promote forestry education through interaction with partners and schools.
• Promote wildfire suppression planning and respond to emergencies.
• Work hours typically 8-5; may include evenings, holidays, and weekends.
• Overnight travel required; residency discussed at interview.
