Job summary

The Forest Program Specialist role within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources supports forest health across PA by leading surveys, coordinating suppression activities, and guiding statewide programs. You will work with experts and partners to protect and improve the health and resilience of Pennsylvania's forests.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience as a Forester (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience as a Forest Nursery Assistant Manager (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Survey Coordination: Conduct surveys to identify forest pest levels and prepare maps and reports
  • Program Planning: Develop objectives for forest health activities based on data and evaluations
  • Training Support: Organize and present forest health training for personnel and cooperators
  • Project Oversight: Guide suppression projects by reviewing proposals and coordinating resources
  • Collaboration Efforts: Work with agencies, researchers, and partners to address forest health issues
  • Data Management: Manage field data systems and assist with statewide data coordination
