Job summary

The National Wild Turkey Federation seeks a Forest Engineer in Coeur d’Alene, ID to support conservation delivery through engineering for forest management projects. This full-time, term-limited role reports to the Forest Management Manager and collaborates with district biologists to advance NWTF conservation objectives.

The engineer will lead transportation planning, road and aquatic improvement design, and site surveys, using AutoCAD and field equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Forest Engineering, or related field with 4 years of experience, or a Master's with 2 years.
  • Experience with road reconstruction, transportation planning, or related construction compliance.
  • Experience in performing engineering site surveys and compiling engineering designs.
  • Knowledge of Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) bridge design methodology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering expertise in developing transportation plans for forest management projects.
  • Assist with harvest planning and road layout, rock source development plans and cost analysis of alternatives.
  • Assess transportation networks for maintenance needs and design temporary roads and aquatic restoration projects.
  • Assist with fish passage improvement projects and habitat restoration efforts.
  • Perform engineering surveys using AutoCAD, GPS, total stations, and related tools.
  • Support contract preparation and construction compliance for engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with U.S. Forest Service staff, contractors, and stakeholders.
  • Attend NWTF events and contribute to communications as needed.
