Starting Date: Immediately

General Description: The Foreperson, Structural schedules projects, orders materials, and supports the completion of work required for assigned structural and carpentry projects by contractors and RPS staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Supports the determination of project requirements and costs; schedules work and orders materials required for assigned structural projects.
• Coordinates with principals, contractors, and staff to assess project needs, address work order issues, and ensure the timely completion of carpentry and locksmith assignments.
• Manages and evaluates a team; provides support and training as applicable.
• Oversees work completed by both contractors and RPS staff as related to structural and carpentry needs.
• Performs structural and carpentry repairs; assists the team with the completion of related work orders.
• Manages the division’s key access system; performs routine locksmith duties and coordinates with external locksmith vendors when needed.
• Prepares and maintains records, spreadsheets, and reports as required.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum five (5) years of experience at a journeyman level in carpentry and lock repair.

Licenses/Certifications

• Valid Virginia driver’s license with a good driving record.

Additional Requirements

• Bilingual/proficiency in Spanish preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge and skills in making simple estimates of time and materials, inspecting lumber and working from sketches, plans, and written instructions.
• Knowledge of carpentry work, local building/construction codes, working from sketches, blueprints and diagrams, and general structural guidelines and procedures.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and required safety precautions and ability to interpret and work from instructions, guidelines, regulations, and policies.
• Strong organizational skills and ease at managing competing demands and determining priorities independently.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and team work skills; ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to lift and carry 20 pounds frequently and 50-100 lbs. occasionally for short distances or with the aid of load bearing equipment; sufficient strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks of lifting, stooping, bending, and carrying carpentry equipment and materials to and from work sites.
• Ability to work after hours and weekends.

Physical Demands

Very Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, climbing, and balancing. The employee frequently uses hands to handle, grasp, and operate tools, materials, and equipment, and engages in repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required to exchange information effectively, and hearing is necessary to perceive information at normal speaking levels and respond to alarms or equipment signals. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color discrimination, reading work orders and plans, inspecting materials and completed work, and safely operating tools and machinery.

Work Environment

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve exposure to various environmental conditions such as noise, vibration, dust, fumes, and oils. The position may require the use of specialized personal protective equipment, including respirators, gloves, and safety goggles, as appropriate to assigned tasks. The employee may work in confined spaces, on ladders or scaffolding, or in areas with fluctuating temperatures and weather conditions. Tasks may require exposure to airborne materials and atmospheric conditions related to construction and maintenance activities. The work environment involves moderate to high physical risk and demands strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols.
