The City of Dallas is seeking a Supervisory forensics leader to oversee staff performing forensic examination, analysis, and reporting within the Forensics Unit of the Police Department. Responsibilities include guiding staff, ensuring accuracy, and coordinating evidence handling and reporting.

This supervisory role requires reacting to complex cases, providing training, and participating in recruitment and discipline processes while staying current with forensic science trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Criminal Justice, or Natural Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Six (6) years of experience in crime scene investigation and analysis.
  • Equivalencies: Associate degree + 8 years; Bachelor's + 8 years; Master's + 4 years.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record; professional license preferred (IAI/TFSC/AFTE).
  • Must pass intensive background investigation and drug test; no disqualifying convictions.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises forensic staff performing fingerprinting, lab analysis, and firearm or toolmark examining; directs work for accuracy and compliance.
  • Develops and implements plans, goals, and standards; tracks evidence handling and provides training.
  • Manages priorities, schedules, resources, and equipment; ensures timely reporting.
  • Reviews work for quality and provides performance feedback; recommends awards.
  • Coaches and instructs employees; acts as technical advisor on complex cases.
  • Participates in recruiting, interviewing, and selection; may authorize overtime.
  • Investigates and resolves grievances; may impose disciplinary actions.
  • Researches methods to improve production and efficiency in forensics; stays updated on trends.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
