Job summary

ASPCA is seeking a Forensic Veterinarian to provide veterinary-forensic expertise for animal cruelty cases in NYC. You will work under senior leadership, performing clinical exams, necropsies, documentation, and expert testimony, while coordinating with law enforcement and prosecutors.

There is no direct animal care role; you will monitor case animals alongside care teams and support evidence collection. NYS licensure is required or eligible.

Qualifications

• Strong written and verbal communication with precise documentation.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Interest in animal cruelty cases and prosecution.
• Experience or training in veterinary forensic necropsy is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide forensic veterinary support for NYC animal cruelty investigations, including exams, necropsies, statements, and expert testimony.
• Maintain proper evidence handling and chain of custody.
• Assist in on-scene veterinary forensic support and case management.
• Collaborate with ASPCA departments and external partners on case workflow.
• Train and mentor veterinarians and staff in veterinary forensic practices.
• Develop and refine forensic protocols and procedures.
