New York County Defender Services seeks a highly competent supervisor to co-supervise the forensic social work unit, a dynamic team of social workers and client advocates who collaborate with Trial, Youth Advocacy, Re-entry, and Homicide/Major Crimes units.

The role emphasizes supervision, protocol development, training, and close collaboration with attorneys to support client-centered representation throughout the criminal process. MSW with NY licensure and five years’ experience preferred.

Qualifikationen

• Master of Social Work from an accredited Graduate School of Social Work.
• New York State License in Social Work (LMSW or LCSW) required.
• Minimum of five years of public defense social work experience and/or work with racially and socioeconomically marginalized communities targeted by carceral systems.
• Knowledge of trauma, substance use disorders, mental health diagnoses, and family dynamics.

Aufgaben

• Assist in evaluating current social work practices and develop new protocols and strategies.
• Provide professional, supportive, equitable and culturally conscious direct supervision of social workers.
• Schedule one-on-one meetings with supervisees to evaluate workload and cases.
• Assign cases and coordinate monthly on-call schedules.
• Lead regular team meetings to support and learn from colleagues.
• Monitor compliance with Legal Server and internal case management systems.
• Review and provide feedback on supervisees’ advocacy.
• Foster collaboration between attorneys and social workers as cases progress.
• Implement best practices including in-person client meetings with incarcerated clients.
• Maintain a positive and professional work environment.
• Carry a limited caseload when appropriate.
• Collaborate on onboarding and professional development opportunities.
• Support re-entry services and discharge planning for clients released from detention centers.
• Assist training for attorneys on client issues and trauma-informed interviewing.
