Job summary

Maricopa County’s Office of the Medical Examiner seeks a physician to direct medicolegal death investigations and perform postmortem examinations in line with NAMe standards. The role includes overnight calls, expert testimony, and collaboration with law enforcement, public health, and the courts.

The successful candidate will be board-certified in Forensic Pathology or eligible within two years, hold AZ medical licensure upon hire, and contribute to education and training of staff and students.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an approved school of medicine or osteopathy.
  • Active Arizona medical license by time of hire.
  • Board Certified in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology by time of hire.
  • Board-certified in Forensic Pathology within two years of hire.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license on hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform postmortem examinations and report findings.
  • Direct medicolegal death investigations in accordance with standards.
  • Provide expert testimony in legal settings when required.
  • Offer consultation to agencies including law enforcement and public health.
  • Participate in trainings, mass fatality responses, and continuing education.

Skills

Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Forensic medicolegal investigation
Clinical pathology experience

Education

M.D. or D.O. degree
Board Certification in Anatomic/Clinical Pathology
Board-certified in Forensic Pathology within 2 years
