Job summary

North London NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to support mental health care on a forensic inpatient ward. Under supervision of a Registered Nurse you will help implement care plans, manage daily clinical priorities, and promote a safe, therapeutic environment.

The role requires full shift rotation including nights, weekends and bank holidays, with mandatory PMVA training and active engagement in quality improvement, audits, and ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Deliver therapeutic activities and support daily living skills.
• Proactively manage challenging behaviors and participate in conflict resolution using Trust-approved protocols.
• Work flexibly across day and night shifts.
• Support safe admissions and discharges and digitally report safety incidents.
• Conduct routine physical health checks and monitor service users.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records and communicate empathetically with service users, families, and carers.
• Safely handle cash, weekly allowances, and patient valuables with meticulous record-keeping.
• Safeguard ward equipment and property and use resources effectively.
• Assist with orientation, training, and shadowing of new staff and Band 2 support workers.
• Participate in quality improvement projects, local audits, and data collection.
• Engage in ongoing professional development, including annual appraisals and mandatory training updates.
