Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Firearm/Toolmark Examiner in Forest Park, GA to support exploitation missions domestically and abroad. This full-time role requires travel and deployment as needed to support mission requirements.

Responsibilities include examining evidence, identifying tool marks, photographing items, and producing detailed reports. The position requires one year of independent forensic lab experience and the ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Qualifications

• One (1) year of experience working independently in a forensic laboratory performing firearms and toolmark evidence comparison and analysis.
• Safe firearm handling including maintenance, gunsmithing, reloading, ballistic performance, bullet casting, shotgun patterning, and manufacturing methods.
• Ability to visualize, evaluate, and compare firearms, bullets and cartridge cases.
• Experience with microscopes and measuring devices for comparison of ammunition components and toolmarks.

Responsibilities

• Examine evidence and forensic materials and render all items safe.
• Examine items for make, model, origin, manufacturer, and serial numbers.
• Identify unique tool marks using magnification, etching, x-ray, or photography.
• Capture photographs of evidence items to support analysis and documentation.
• Submit evidence to national databases and perform technical reviews of casework.
• Produce detailed notes and reports and perform quality checks of instruments.
