Biomedical Engineer – Accident ReconstructionistAbout ApertureAperture brings together leading forensic specialists and technical consultants who clarify complex events, strengthen business decisions, and deliver answers grounded in science and extensive industry experience.DescriptionAs a Biomedical Engineer/Accident Reconstructionist you are responsible for independently managing and prioritizing a caseload of field investigations for a variety of accidents, including but not limited to, vehicular accidents, slip/trip and fall, falling object(s) or recreational accidents. You will collect and analyze scientific findings, including principal directions of force, changes in velocity, and other findings in support of your overall theory of the accident. You are also responsible for meeting billable hours and developing and improving existing client relationships as well as generating new client relationships.Essential FunctionsConduct vehicle and scene field investigations for a variety of accidents, including but not limited to, vehicular accidents, slip/trip and fall, falling object(s) and recreational accidents;Collect and analyze information that is a valid basis for a sound forensic analysis, simulation and/or testing for all accidents;Review and summarize supporting depositions and medical records for inclusion in case report;Calculate principal directions of force, and changes in velocity during a crash event to support findings;Perform Biomedical analysis as it relates to injury correlations and causation;Prepare reports of scientific findings and conclusions that can be understood by lay persons and used in testimony during depositions and trials;Prepare and deliver technical/educational presentations to existing and potential client groups and technical conferences;Provide expert witness testimony via depositions or in a court of law, as needed;Responsible for retention and development of client relationships, including development of new business;Meet or exceed required billable hours; andPhysical requirements (as Physical Requirements, below).Technical RequirementsCollege degree, or higher, in engineering5+ years’ industry experience reconstructing and analyzing injury producing incidents to evaluate and determine mechanisms of injury and liabilityExperience with dynamic testing, data collection or data analysisProficient computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programsEnhance professional/technical knowledge and credibility through continuing education programs, review of technical publications, and preparation of technical papersPreferred Technical RequirementsExperience with musculoskeletal Biomedical analysis, vehicle accident reconstruction experience, and forensic experienceKnowledge of accident reconstruction tools such as PC-Crash, Bosch CDR, Faro Laser Scan hardware and Faro Scene softwareACTAR certification preferred, not required (will be required for continued employment)CDR certification preferred, not required (will be required for continued employment)Working knowledge of motor vehicle systems and mechanics a plusFAA Part 107 certified preferred, not requiredEligible for PE or EIT designation in California preferred, not requiredNon-Technical RequirementsOutstanding oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with technical and non-technical peopleAbility to project a calm and professional demeanor regardless of the type of environment (calm or fast paced) or type of clienteleStrong analytical and problem-solving skills, self-motivated, and a team playerAble to work with finite deadlines and prioritize competing deadlinesThe ability to work independently, and as a contributor in a group environmentTrustworthy, honest, respectful, and flexibleStrong work ethic, as well as cultural awareness and sensitivityMust be able to be entrusted with confidential informationPhysical RequirementsThis position is physical in nature and the below are considered essential job functions: Lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, walking on roofs, entering and working in confined spaces, working outdoors in hot or cold weather, using necessary safety equipment, performing other duties that may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or squatting for prolonged periods of timeAbility to travel without restrictionWork EnvironmentThe functions of this role are conducted in both an office environment as well as in the field.
