Job summary

The Department of Forensic Science (DFS) seeks a Forensic Evidence Specialist I for the Western Laboratory in Roanoke, VA. Primary duties include receiving, storing, transferring, and returning evidence, while maintaining chain of custody and building security. Work hours are 7:30 am–5:00 pm, Monday–Friday.

Qualifications include data entry and accuracy, proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, and ability to lift up to 75 pounds. Valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

  • Experience entering data into computer systems.
  • Experience reviewing data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, store, transfer, and return evidence for user agencies and DFS labs.
  • Maintain access control and chain of custody using a computerized database.
  • Adhere to dress code and wear Department-approved clothing; support security measures.
