Job summary

The Falcon Group in Warren, NJ seeks a Forensic Engineer/Structural Professional Engineer to lead forensic investigations, prepare reports, and provide expert witness testimony for community associations, construction, and claims. A PE license with four+ years in structural/architectural consulting and a US driver’s license are required; OSHA-10

Position Summary

Immediate Opening for a Forensic Engineer/Structural Professional Engineer at The Falcon Group in Warren, NJ. The role leads and manages forensic investigations, report preparation, and expert witness testimony for community association transitions, construction, and claims within scope, budget, and timeline.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serve as an expert witness in depositions, mediations, or litigation.
  • Perform and coordinate forensic inspections, applying technical expertise to assess project conditions and identify potential issues or deficiencies.
  • Generate comprehensive field reports detailing observations, measurements, and findings from site visits and inspections.
  • Review and interpret drawings, codes, specifications, project manuals, and material specifications.
  • Generate expert reports that provide in-depth analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Interpret and specify a wide range of testing, supervise testing activities, and ensure accurate data collection.
  • Perform peer review of technical data prepared by internal engineers/architects and third‑party entities.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout design and construction phases, ensuring compliance with regulations, codes and standards.
  • Perform and coordinate design calculations and drawings.
  • Oversee and assist in the development and review of technical specifications, drawings, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate and manage project kick‑off, milestone, and closeout meetings.
  • Verify schedules and ensure adherence to project plans and timelines.
  • Conduct on‑site inspections, documenting conditions, performing field testing, photographing, and creating hand‑sketches.
  • Record accurate field measurements and perform calculations throughout the project.
  • Prepare written correspondence with clients and contractors.
  • Review and interpret investigation reports, including drawings and technical specifications.
  • Communicate project status and proactively address issues or discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized records, files, drawings and other essential project data.
  • Collect post‑project feedback and communicate improvements.
  • Keep up to date with industry trends through workshops and professional societies.
  • Engage in networking activities and represent the company at professional events.
  • Perform other duties as related to the position as assigned.
Client Relations
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including clients, contractors and consultants.
  • Collaborate with legal teams and represent the firm in mediations, providing expert opinions.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders to present design proposals and provide technical recommendations.
  • Foster strong client relationships and ensure effective communication.
Internal Team
  • Work closely with the team to define scope, budget, goals, deliverables and timeline.
  • Mentor and support junior team members.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
  • Four plus years of experience in the architectural and engineering consulting industry.
  • Experience as an expert witness.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university in Structural or Civil Engineering.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred.
  • Valid United States driver’s license required.

Salary Estimate

Estimated salary range: $90,000 to $170,000. The salary offered will vary based on experience, education, skills, abilities, and certifications.

Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry items up to 40 lbs.
  • Safe operation of ladders, scaffolds, and other access equipment.
  • Work safely at heights.
  • Exposure to prolonged periods outdoors and diverse weather conditions, including temperatures above 85°F or below 40°F, high humidity, and adverse weather such as snow, ice, rain, and wind.
  • Extended periods of standing and walking on uneven or challenging terrains.
  • Adjust lunch hours as project demands.
