Job summary

EFI Global seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer, P.E., with power system analysis and forensic investigation expertise. This remote role requires a home-based office and occasional travel across the region.

You will inspect loss scenes, perform failure analysis, prepare reports, and serve as an expert witness when required. A BS in EE and active PE license with 5+ years of relevant experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • PE license required in resident state; multi-state licensing preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in power system analysis and fire investigations.
  • Expert witness experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide power system analysis and determine origin and cause of fire, explosions, and equipment failures.
  • Inspect loss scenes in residential, commercial, and industrial settings; investigate damages and evidence.
  • Analyze and document failure analysis; examine evidence in a lab and research failure modes.
  • Collaborate with experts to produce reports outlining origin and cause of losses.
  • Serve as expert witness in court and/or depositions as needed.
  • Document and maintain billable hours for forensic projects on a time/expense basis.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to newer colleagues on complex assignments.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer, P.E. licensed with a strong background in power system analysis, codes and standards, and forensic investigations. This remote role requires a home‑based office, local or regional travel, and is preferred for candidates residing near Columbia, SC, Clemson, SC, Rock Hill, SC, Spartanburg, SC, Greenville, SC, Charlotte, NC, or Atlanta, GA.

Responsibilities
  • Provide power system analysis and determine the origin and cause of fire and explosion losses, equipment failures, lightning strike damage, electric shock and power surge damage, and post‑storm damage.
  • Inspect loss scenes at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and investigate damages and evidence due to failures.
  • Analyze and document failure analysis and causation of failures, examine and test evidence in a laboratory setting, and research failure modes, products, installations, and maintenance related findings.
  • Collaborate with other experts to produce detailed reports outlining the origin and cause of losses and damages.
  • Serve as expert witness in court and/or depositions.
  • Document and maintain billable hours on a time and expense basis for failure analysis and forensic engineering projects.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to newer colleagues on complex engineering assignments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license, minimum required for resident state; multi‑state licensing and/or active NCEES Record preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power system analysis, fire investigations, and failure analysis.
  • Expert witness testimony experience is a plus.
Working Conditions

Remote work from a home‑based office. Requires standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, bending, working outdoors in hot or cold weather, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing or pulling up to 100 pounds, and driving up to 4 hours per day. Must be able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
