Job summary

Louisiana State Police Crime Laboratory seeks a Crime Laboratory Technical Specialist to lead the Forensic DNA Unit, provide technical oversight, and supervise analysts in analysis, certification, quality assurance, and training. This role also involves evaluating methods, drafting procedures, and testifying as an expert.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree with extensive biology/chemistry coursework and four years of professional crime-lab experience; typical hours are 8:00 AM–4:30 PM,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with twelve semester hours in biology or chemistry and twelve semester hours in a biological science, chemistry, forensic science, molecular physics, physics, criminalistics or pharmacology plus four years of professional-level crime laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to team members in data analysis, equipment operation, troubleshooting, reagent preparation, forensic database queries, and evidence collection.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge in casework, data collection and interpretation.
  • Conduct technical/administrative reviews of analytical data and reports and initiate corrective actions when required.
  • Review and recommend current methods and research; implement new analytical methods.
  • Draft forensic policies, procedures, and regulations.
