Job summary

City of New Orleans is seeking a professional to assist the CODIS Administrator in overseeing the CODIS database within the DNA unit. You will help process DNA samples in the laboratory, ensure the CODIS database functions effectively, and verify that DNA evidence is accurately processed for use in criminal investigations.

This role emphasizes accuracy, adherence to procedures, and collaboration with the forensic team to support investigations and casework.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related scientific field.
• Twelve (12) semester hours of college course work that must have included all of the following areas: biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and either: statistics or population genetics.
• Four (4) years of full-time professional forensic experience as a qualified DNA Analyst.
• Master's Degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a closely related field may be substituted for 1 year of professional experience; a PH.D may be substituted for two years of professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist the CODIS Administrator and oversee the CODIS database within the DNA unit.
• Process DNA samples in the laboratory.
• Ensure the CODIS database functions effectively.
• Verify that DNA evidence is accurately processed for use in criminal investigations; and related work as required.

Education
