Job summary

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) seeks a forensic scientist to conduct examinations and DNA analysis of evidence. You will prepare written reports and provide expert testimony, ensuring proper chain of custody and professional conduct in courts.

Role requires a biology/chemistry/forensic science degree, basic computer skills, and ability to testify. Overnight travel and lifting up to 20 pounds may be needed; training and collaboration with SLED teams are part of the job.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, forensic science, or related field required or within 90 days of posting.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Basic understanding of serology/DNA analysis.
• Ability to testify in court.
• Overnight travel may be required.
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Examine items for biological evidence using protocols to locate and identify body fluids.
• Perform DNA analysis steps and document results.
• Maintain complete chain of custody for evidence.
• Prepare formal written reports and provide expert testimony.
• Operate and document case information in LIMS and related equipment.
• Participate in training and continuing education.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners as needed.
