We are currently seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for our New York/New Jersey district with experience in designing and/or constructing residential and/or commercial buildings, to assist in determining the cause, origin, and extent of construction defects, structural failures, water intrusions, and other failures. An understanding and proficiency in installation standards, practices, and procedures within the building construction industry is essential.

Although this position is remote, the candidate will travel within the NY/NJ areas and surrounding states for two to three hours daily. The candidate must reside in the NYC, NJ, or Long Island areas.

Duties include investigating and analyzing residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal matters, such as contract disputes, installation deficiencies, material deficiencies, site evaluations, settlement investigations, structural assessments, and vibration analyses. Responsibilities also involve gathering photographic evidence, conducting investigations to document on-site conditions, overseeing field-testing, reviewing historical documentation, and preparing reports to document causes of failure, extent of loss, repair scope, and remediation recommendations, along with providing opinions and expert testimony in litigation.

Requirements:

  • Ability to initiate, develop, and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering.
  • 5-7 years minimum experience.
  • PE License, required.
  • NCEES record, preferred.
  • Experience handling litigation/investigation, required.
  • Knowledge of fundamental architectural and/or engineering principles, construction, and building component assemblies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain engineering/architectural issues to clients and involved parties.
  • Willingness to travel 2 to 3 hours daily for fieldwork.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform inspections in confined spaces, including building roof structures and crawlspaces.

The salary range is $104,100 - $156,100, depending on education, experience, location, and certifications.
