Responsibilities

  • Obtain, organize, and digitize case documentation, photographs, and radiographs.
  • Organize and digitize dental and full-body imaging.
  • Compile biological, biometric, and contextual case information.
  • Enter and update case information, photographs, and biometric data in NamUs.
  • Track case progress and maintain cold-case spreadsheets and grant documentation.
  • Prepare disinterment requests and related supporting materials.
  • Prepare paperwork and biological samples for submission to external laboratories.
  • Assist with advanced DNA, isotope, and other specialized testing initiatives.
  • Conduct missing and unidentified persons searches and case comparisons.
  • Collaborate with forensic professionals, laboratories, law enforcement agencies, and other partners.

Job description

Forensic Anthropologist – Part-Time Fellowship

Location: New York City, NY
Schedule: 1–2 days per week, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
Assignment Duration: Through June 30, 2027

Cedar Park Med is seeking a qualified Forensic Anthropologist for a part-time, grant-funded fellowship supporting a Missing and Unidentified Human Remains initiative in New York City. This position will contribute to long-term identification efforts by compiling case information, digitizing records, updating national databases, coordinating advanced laboratory testing, and assisting with missing and unidentified persons investigations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a forensic or biological anthropologist to apply advanced academic training to meaningful casework involving human remains identification.

Responsibilities
  • Obtain, organize, and digitize case documentation, photographs, and radiographs
  • Organize and digitize dental and full-body imaging
  • Compile biological, biometric, and @contextual case information
  • Enter and update case information, photographs, and biometric data in NamUs
  • Track case progress and maintain cold-case spreadsheets and grant documentation
  • Prepare disinterment requests and related supporting materials
  • Prepare paperwork and biological samples for submission to external laboratories
  • Assist with advanced DNA, isotope, and other specialized testing initiatives
  • Conduct missing and unidentified persons searches and case comparisons
  • Collaborate with forensic professionals, laboratories, law enforcement agencies, and other investigative partners
  • Support additional identification-related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • PhD in Forensic Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, or a closely related anthropology discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Advanced knowledge of anthropological theory and forensic principles, procedures, and techniques related to human remains identification
  • Graduate-level coursework or specialized training in:
    • Human osteology and dental anatomy
    • Skeletal growth and development
    • Postmortem CT and radiographic imaging
    • Evidence handling and basic forensic science principles
    • Processing and examining human remains
    • Professional ethics and conduct
  • Ability to apply anthropological and forensic theory to the practical analysis and identification of human remains
  • Advanced analytical, technical writing, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate case documentation
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and case materials professionally
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a medical examiner’s or coroner’s office
  • Experience collaborating with law enforcement agencies
  • Training or knowledge in comparative medical imaging analysis
  • Knowledge of human gross anatomy and dental anatomy
  • Familiarity with fingerprints, DNA analysis, and identification investigations
  • Experience conducting missing and unidentified persons case comparisons
