HJF is seeking an Forensic Anthropologist to provide professional and scientific assistance pertaining to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency's (DPAA) partner-related activities. This position regularly interfaces with employees, consultants, partners, and contractors, and communicates through briefings and written products with Agency leadership, U.S. Government employees, family members, foreign officials, and partners as well as potential partners.

This is the first of a three level Archaeology series. It is distinguished by working within small to mid-scale archaeological projects. This position works autonomously with support from Sr. and Lead Archaeologist.

This position will be in support of the DPAA. The DPAA is the US Department of Defense Agency responsible for the recovery and identification of fallen US service members from WWII to the gulf war. Its mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting of missing personnel to their families and the nation. To accomplish this, the DPAA sends out organic and partner investigation and recovery missions worldwide, and recovered material is analyzed in the state-of-the-art DPAA laboratory. DPAA expands its recovery and identification capacity and capabilities through various innovation initiatives, and partners with research and academic institutes to address research requirements.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Responsibilities

• Demonstrate experience in osteological analysis and a thorough grasp of the methods used to create a biological profile.
• Demonstrate work history supporting anthropological analysis to assist the DPAA in the identification of human remains, including those from large commingled assemblages, of U.S. service members lost during past conflicts.
• Correlate investigative evidence with Laboratory findings to achieve identification of casualties.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Master's Degree in Anthropology or related field is required. PhD preferred.
• Minimum 3-5 years of experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• Five years of experience with generating a biological profile or writing technical reports; Expert knowledge in human skeletal anatomy.
• Two years of professional work experience in a forensic anthropology laboratory setting, or equivalent combination of similar education and experience.
• General knowledge of DPAA mission and past field activities.
• Knowledge of mission planning, execution, oversight, and logistical support.
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience working independently with minimal direction or supervision. Experience performing tasks under tight deadlines and managing shifting priorities.
• Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
• A demonstrated history of initiative and achievement.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with all levels or an organization to include management and mission partners in an independent manner to achieve required results.
• Experience supporting and anticipating mission needs and demonstrating problem-solving skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

• Takes place in a typical office environment.

Compensation

• The annual salary for this position is $77,600. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
