Travel to project locations is required, with housing provided. The ideal candidate will have hands-on leadership, a background in mining or earthworks, and familiarity with GPS/machine-control systems to ensure accurate grading and safe operations.

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced Working Foreman to lead crews and support field operations across mining and heavy civil projects. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can direct crews, coordinate equipment and production, solve problems in the field, and operate heavy equipment alongside the team when needed.

This position requires significant travel to project locations. Housing will be provided while assigned to each project.

Position Summary

The Working Foreman is responsible for supervising daily field activities, coordinating labor and equipment, maintaining production goals, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.

The ideal candidate has experience in mining, heavy civil construction, earthwork, or site development and is comfortable leading from the field. This person should understand grading, excavation, haul operations, and equipment utilization and be familiar with GPS and machine-control systems used in modern earthmoving operations.

Key Responsibilities

Crew Leadership & Production

• Lead daily activities of equipment operators, laborers, and field personnel
• Assign work areas, equipment, and daily production priorities
• Conduct pre-shift meetings, toolbox talks, and crew briefings
• Monitor production throughout the shift and adjust work plans as conditions change
• Maintain a strong field presence and work directly alongside crews
• Identify production issues and implement practical solutions to keep work moving
• Communicate manpower, equipment, and material needs to project leadership

Heavy Equipment Operations

• Operate heavy equipment as needed to support field production
• Assist with excavation, grading, loading, haulage, and general earthmoving activities
• Support crews during manpower shortages, production pushes, or difficult field conditions
• Monitor equipment operation and identify potential mechanical or performance issues
• Coordinate with maintenance personnel when equipment repairs are required
• Ensure operators are using equipment safely and efficiently

GPS & Grade Control

• Work with GPS-enabled equipment and machine-control systems used for grading and excavation
• Understand basic site plans, elevations, slopes, cut/fill requirements, and grade stakes
• Assist operators with GPS setup, grade verification, and troubleshooting when needed
• Confirm work is being completed to required grades and project specifications
• Communicate discrepancies between field conditions, GPS models, and construction plans

Safety & Compliance

• Enforce company safety policies, site procedures, and applicable MSHA requirements
• Identify hazards and correct unsafe conditions before work proceeds
• Conduct field inspections of work areas and equipment
• Ensure crews follow PPE and safe operating procedures
• Participate in incident investigations and corrective-action discussions when required
• Promote a strong safety culture through consistent field leadership

Project Coordination

• Coordinate daily activities with Superintendents and Project Managers
• Track production quantities, equipment utilization, and crew progress
• Maintain daily reports, time records, and field documentation
• Coordinate with subcontractors, survey personnel, maintenance teams, and other field personnel
• Help sequence work to maintain schedule and production targets
• Communicate field changes, delays, and operational issues promptly

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Foreman, Lead Operator, Working Foreman, or similar field leadership role
• Experience in mining, heavy civil construction, earthwork, site development, or similar operations
• Strong hands-on experience operating heavy equipment
• Experience with equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, and haul trucks
• Familiarity with GPS and machine-control systems such as Trimble, Topcon, Leica, or similar platforms
• Ability to read basic plans, understand elevations, and work to grade
• Strong understanding of excavation, grading, haulage, and production operations
• Ability to troubleshoot field problems and make sound decisions in real time
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Working knowledge of MSHA regulations and mining safety practices preferred
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively

Travel Requirements

• This is a heavy-travel position supporting projects in multiple locations
• Candidates must be comfortable working extended assignments away from home
• Housing will be provided at each project location
• Project schedules and rotations may vary depending on operational requirements
