Job Title

Foreman - Millwright

Job Description Summary

Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Overtime, weekends, and travel may be required based on project needs.)

The Millwright Foreman is responsible for leading and supervising millwright crews in the installation, maintenance, repair, alignment, and relocation of industrial machinery and mechanical systems. This role oversees daily field operations, ensures work is completed safely and efficiently, and serves as the primary point of contact between field personnel, superintendents, project managers, and customers. The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical aptitude, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise millwright crews in the safe installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial equipment and machinery.
  • Coordinate daily work activities, manpower, equipment, and materials to meet project schedules and productivity goals.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and work plans with crew members before starting work.
  • Perform equipment installation, precision alignments, bearing replacements, shaft alignments, machinery repairs, and equipment relocations.
  • Oversee rigging and lifting operations, ensuring compliance with proper lifting procedures and safety standards.
  • Conduct daily safety meetings, job hazard analyses, and toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all work complies with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, customer requirements, and quality standards.
  • Inspect work in progress and completed installations to ensure accuracy and workmanship.
  • Track labor hours, production quantities, equipment usage, and project progress.
  • Communicate daily progress, manpower needs, delays, and field issues to project management.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating subcontractors and support trades when required.
  • Mentor and train apprentice millwrights and less experienced crew members.
  • Support project planning by identifying material, equipment, and manpower requirements.
  • Maintain company equipment, tools, and vehicles in safe operating condition.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with customers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project startup, commissioning, testing, and closeout activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift throughout the workday.
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in industrial environments.
  • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and industrial settings.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Millwright in industrial construction, maintenance, or equipment installation.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of rotating equipment, conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, and industrial machinery.
  • Experience with rigging, precision alignment, equipment setting, welding, and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, technical drawings, and equipment specifications.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and direct crews.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and industrial safety practices.
  • Ability to travel and work extended hours when required.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in physically demanding environments including heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
Required Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
Recommended Education
  • Technical School Certification in Millwright, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, or related field
Required Work Experience
  • Millwright, Mechanical Maintenance, or Industrial Construction – 5 years
Recommended Work Experience
  • Foreman, Leadman, or Supervisory Experience – 2 years
