Job description

MatPel Builders is a premier general contractor based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We specialize in architecturally significant, high-end residential construction, including modern custom homes, contemporary estates, historic renovations, complex remodels, and retrofit projects.

As a Foreman, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional craftsmanship on high-end residential projects. You’ll work closely with the Superintendent to lead field operations, coordinate crews and subcontractors, and uphold quality and safety standards. This position requires strong attention to detail, solid plan interpretation skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with professionalism and efficiency. Successful performance in this role prepares team members for advancement to the Superintendent level.

Key Responsibilities

Crew Leadership

• Manage daily crew activities and scheduling.
• Plan ahead by forecasting crew and resource needs at least six weeks out.
• Delegate tasks effectively and foster a productive, respectful work environment.
• Ensure quality meets or exceeds company standards.
• Maintain safety on site and model best practices.
• Promote a positive, solutions-focused jobsite culture.

Subcontractor Coordination

• Confirm scope, schedule, and readiness for subcontractors.
• Supervise and support subcontractor performance under Superintendent direction.
• Maintain a working knowledge of plans, specifications, and materials.
• Foster cooperative relationships with subcontractor leads.
• Generate punch lists and enforce completion timelines.
• Track and document change orders and T&M work as needed.

Communication & Documentation

• Submit material orders, field work orders (FWOs), and other forms as needed.
• Ensure all team member timecards are completed accurately and submitted on time.
• Participate in production meetings and provide updates to the Superintendent.

Jobsite Safety

• Act as Field Safety Officer.
• Enforce OSHA standards and jobsite safety protocols.
• Wear and promote proper PPE use at all times.

General Oversight

• Understand and apply local building codes.
• Initiate early punch list processes to minimize final corrections.
• Maintain organized, clean, and well-equipped jobsites.
• Support Superintendent as needed and serve as backup when required.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Stand, walk, climb, crouch, crawl, and navigate stairs/ladders.
• Work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
• Handle tools and materials with manual dexterity.
• Tolerate exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and airborne particles.
