Job summary

The Beaver Excavating Co. in Southern Ohio is seeking an Earthwork Foreman to organize and direct on-site crews across various job sites. This role ensures compliance with the company’s safety program and that work meets client quality standards.

You will plan look-ahead schedules, supervise crews and subcontractors, and coordinate materials, equipment, and field reports. Strong leadership, planning, and communication skills are essential. Extended travel is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 30 Hour OSHA certification and First aid/CPR certification required.
  • Competent Person training preferred.
  • Vocational or construction management training a plus.
  • 5–8 years of experience in similar construction.

Responsibilities

  • Completes necessary 2 week look-ahead to plan work with Superintendent(s).
  • Understands and enforces company safety policies.
  • Conducts daily JSA to recognize safety hazards associated with the daily tasks and educates crews of hazards.
  • Provides oversight direction to crews and/or subcontractors.
  • Prepares schedules for needed manpower, materials, equipment and subcontractors.
  • Ensures quality of work performed by crews.
  • Works with senior foremen and/or superintendents to complete short interval schedules.
  • Completes daily timesheets and field reports.
  • Ensures crews are working at maximum efficiency during shift hours and leads by example.
  • Inspects incoming materials for quality, accuracy, completeness, and contract compliance.
  • Works as part of a team with management, supervision, safety, and other personnel.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Job description

The Earthwork Foreman is responsible for organizing and directing on-site crew work. This position ensures the crews are in compliance with the company’s safety program and ensures that the work performed meets or exceeds the quality requirements of the client.

Location

This position works on various job sites in/around Southern Ohio. Extended/overnight travel is required.

Main Job Tasks & Responsibilities

Skills & Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience with earthwork operations, methods, and equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and effectively apply plans, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Strong understanding of safe construction methods, procedures, and OSHA compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership, crew supervision, and team development abilities.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and direct daily field operations to meet production goals and project schedules.
  • Strong working knowledge of grade checking, layout, and interpretation of surveying information.
  • Ability to identify and resolve field challenges while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and owners' representatives.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational or construction management training a plus
  • 30 Hour OSHA certification
  • First aid/CPR certification
  • Competent Person training
  • 5-8 years of experience in similar type construction
  • Prior crew and subcontractor management experience
