Foreman

Full Time Kentwood, MI, US

Salary Range: $45.00 To $52.00 Hourly

FOREMAN ELECTRICIAN (INDUSTRIAL)

Serve Electric in Sterling Heights, Plymouth, and Grand Rapids, MI

ABOUT THIS ROLE

As an Industrial Electrician Foreman, you'll run electrical work on industrial job sites: leading a crew, managing installations from start to finish, upholding code and safety standards, and representing the Serve Electric standard on every project. This is a field leadership position: you'll be the person a crew, and a customer, looks to when the job needs to get done right. If you thrive in different industrial environments, have the technical depth to hit the ground running, and know how to lead people as well as wire a panel, this is built for you.

WHAT WE OFFER

We know skilled industrial electricians have options. Here's why Serve Electric is worth your look:

  • Competitive Pay: Wages that reflect your experience, licensure, and leadership responsibility
  • Health, dental, vision, life insurance, and HSA
  • Company Vehicle + Gas Card: You're traveling to get the job done; we cover how you get there
  • Paid Time Off
  • 401(k)
  • Safety-First Culture: Safety Equipment & Uniforms Provided
  • Real Growth Paths: Foreman → Project Manager → Branch Manager. We promote from within and mean it
  • In-House Apprenticeship Program: Help develop the next generation while advancing your own career

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Running the job: planning, organizing, and leading electrical work on industrial job sites from start to finish
  • Directing and supervising a crew of two or more electricians and apprentices, scaling up as job size demands
  • Assigning tasks, setting the pace, and holding the crew accountable to quality and schedule
  • Inspecting installations to ensure quality and code compliance
  • Upholding and enforcing job site safety standards for yourself and your crew
  • Troubleshooting complex electrical issues from start to finish, often without schematics or full operator information
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, rough sketches, plans, drawings, and specifications, and translating them into a crew work plan
  • Wiring 120V, 480V, and low voltage systems
  • Working with lighting, transformers, motor controls, and switchboards
  • Measuring, threading, bending, and running EMT and rigid conduit (½\" – 4\")
  • Sizing feeders and understanding tooling and material requirements for each job
  • Mentoring and training apprentices and newer electricians on your crew
  • Communicating with customers, the service manager, and project stakeholders as the on-site point of contact
  • Attending job site meetings and representing the crew's progress and needs in project coordination
  • Ordering materials, tracking job progress, and flagging issues before they become delays

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

Industrial experience is strongly preferred for this role. While residential and commercial electrical experience can provide a foundation, it does not fully translate to the demands of this position. We are seeking electricians with proven industrial experience, specifically in troubleshooting, large conduit and wire pulls, motor controls, 480V systems, transformers, and working within industrial environments, who can lead a crew and contribute effectively from day one.

  • Active State of Michigan Journeyman or Master Electrician license (required)
  • 3+ years as a Journeyman, with demonstrated experience running jobs and leading a crew of at least 2 electricians/apprentices, comfortable scaling up to larger crews on bigger jobs and projects
  • Demonstrated industrial electrical experience, not just listed as a skill, but hands-on, verifiable experience in industrial environments
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues from start to finish without reliance on schematics or complete customer information
  • Proficient with 120V, 480V, and low voltage systems
  • Knowledgeable in motor controls, transformers, lighting, and switchboards
  • Experience with feeder sizing requirements
  • Ability to measure, thread, bend, and run EMT and rigid conduit up to 4\"
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC code
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, plans, drawings, and rough sketches, and turn them into a crew work plan
  • Proven ability to lead, train, and hold a crew accountable, this role is as much about people as it is about the work
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision, managing priorities across multiple tasks, and making calls in the field
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications (Microsoft Office, Outlook, ERP systems)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Valid driver's license

Nice to have:

  • Experience running projects independently, large or small, as lead or foreman
  • NFPA 70E / electrical safety compliance familiarity
  • Prior experience working for an industrial electrical contractor
  • Prior formal supervisory or foreman experience
