Job description

We are hiring immediately for full‑time FOOD UNIT LEAD positions at Gary Schools Corporation, located at 900 Gerry Street, Gary, IN 46406 (online applications only).

Schedule: Full‑time, Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM (details provided during interview).

Requirements: One year of supervisory experience and at least two years of food service experience.

Compensation: $18.00 per hour. Internal employee referral bonus available.

Job Summary

Coordinates activities of other food‑service employees and creates an enjoyable dining experience for customers, staff, and visitors.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide quality customer service with attentive one‑on‑one care.
• Oversee and participate in the preparation and service of food and beverage items according to company standards for presentation, sanitation, safety, and portion control.
• Help plan menus.
• Ensure timely, efficient meal service and supervise the serving of meals.
• Respond to customer complaints in person at the time of the complaint and via email for electronic complaints.
• Train employees; assign and coordinate work to promote efficiency and excellence in food and service.
• Determine work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow.
• Use proper systems for completion of required daily/weekly/monthly reports such as inventory‑cash reports, production records, payroll, and time‑keeping.
• Handle cash properly as established by the Food Accounting Manual.
• Order food and other necessary supplies from approved sources or purveyors.
• Direct and participate in the overall sanitation and safety of the facility and employees.
• Develop and ensure adherence to a sanitation schedule for cleaning of kitchen and dining areas, and washing of utensils and equipment.
• Issue written and oral instructions.
• Help select and orient employees; oversee staff training in areas of responsibility.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
