Job summary

City of New Orleans Government is seeking a skilled cook to perform meal preparation and cooking in an institutional kitchen, following established menus, recipes, and instructions. You may work independently to prepare a variety of meals while ensuring proper food handling and sanitation.

The role involves operating kitchen equipment, receiving and storing supplies, portioning meals, and maintaining clean work areas in compliance with health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and cooks a variety of foods, including meats, vegetables, pastries, and other menu items.
• Follows established menus, recipes, written instructions, and assigned meal schedules.
• Operates and maintains standard kitchen equipment, including stoves, mixers, food choppers, refrigerators, and related equipment.
• Receives, inspects, organizes, and stores food supplies in pantries, refrigerators, freezers, and other designated storage areas.
• Prepares and portions meals in accordance with established standards and serving requirements.
• Maintains clean and sanitary kitchen, pantry, food preparation, and storage areas.
• Washes dishes, utensils, cookware, and other kitchen equipment.
• Assists with setting up dining and serving areas, including arranging tables and preparing food service areas.
• May provide direction and assistance to kitchen helpers and other assigned staff.
• Ensures food preparation and storage practices comply with established health, safety, and sanitation requirements.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
