Program Overview and Job Summary:

The Food Services Manager reports to the School Year Programs Director and is responsible for coordinating, managing, and serving nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners to clients, residents, and staff on the Keystone Science School (KSS) campus. This role requires flexibility with a variable schedule driven by guest counts and program workloads. The ideal candidate will work independently, managing staff schedules, ensuring cost-effective food ordering, managing the cleanliness and order of the kitchen area, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Key responsibilities include managing the food service budget, creating kitchen staff schedules, training team members, and ensuring the kitchen meets all health and safety standards.

Preparing and serving meals – 50%
Kitchen Management – 15%
Ordering and Managing Invoices - 15%

Client Interaction and Customer Service - 10%

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Preparing and Serving Meals

Plan, prepare, and serve meals according to program schedules while adhering to Colorado Health Department standards for food handling and storage.
Manage food service delivery at the on-campus dining hall and offsite programming locations.
Provide input to improve menus and serving procedures, enhancing the quality of food service at KSS.
Work within the food services budget in collaboration with the School Year Program Director.

Kitchen Management

Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and dining area, including washing dishes, mopping floors, and adhering to a cleaning schedule.
Conduct deep cleaning based on cleaning schedules.
Ensure compliance with Colorado Retail Food Establishment Rules and Regulations and Colorado Child Care Licensure standards.

Ordering and Managing Invoices

Maintain adequate inventory of food and supplies, placing orders as necessary.
Receive shipments, verify accuracy, and resolve discrepancies with vendors.
Process and code invoices for payment in a timely manner.

Staff Management

Manage all elements of efficient and effective food service at KSS, including hiring, training, scheduling, and coaching employees;
Manage the kitchen hours and staff so shifts are covered to prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner;
Maintain accurate employee time keeping online and approve timecards for employees;

Client Interaction and Customer Service

Collaborate with clients to accommodate dietary needs and food allergies.
Represent the food service team in KSS staff meetings and communicate relevant updates to the team.
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Solid knowledge of food safety and production techniques.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Motivated, with a strong work ethic and a commitment to completing tasks.
Ability to multitask and manage high workloads in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent customer service, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
Experience interacting effectively with diverse populations and varying levels of experience.
Proficiency in MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel, or willingness to learn.

Our required education, experience, and certifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience in food prep and safety;
Current First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment;
Excellent driving record and a valid driver’s license;
Food Protection Manager certification.

In addition to the above required talents, our ideal candidate will have these preferred skillsets:

Completion of a Culinary Degree or apprenticeship preferred;
Experience as a Sous Chef preferred;

Our travel expectations:
As a part of managing the food service for off-site programs, occasional travel to oversee food service operations may be required. In most situations, KSS will provide transportation to off-site programming locations. However, staff may be asked to use personal vehicles to travel within Summit County. Any travel mileage in personal vehicles outside Summit County may be reimbursed.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $58,000.00 — $63,000.00 plus a generous benefit package including:

75% employer-paid medical and dental premiums for the employee and dependents;
100% employer-paid short- and long-term disability, $50,000 life insurance policy with matching AD&D benefit;
401K retirement savings plan with a 3% employer match contribution;
Time off benefits that include PTO, sick time and company holidays

Accommodations

Housing is provided at minimal cost in a small rustic cabin with water available in adjacent buildings. The Food Services Manager is not required to live on campus. A housing deposit may be collected. Food is provided during shifts.

The employee must work safely and effectively with all kitchen equipment. The noise level is usually moderate but varies seasonally due to programs and staffing on campus.
