Job summary

Oakland Community College in Royal Oak, MI seeks an on-site Food Service Support role to assist in the lab kitchen, ware-washing, and setup for culinary events.

The position requires following County Health Department standards, stocking deliveries, and helping with cashiering during operations and events. Team members must learn guidelines, read labels, and maintain safety and cleanliness throughout shifts.

Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and follow County Health Department guidelines.
  • Ability to read and understand common documents and labels such as break schedules, food/supply labels, warning labels, etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers
  • Ability to utilize basic math skills to assist with inventory and cashiering
  • Ability to read chef's supplies requests to build carts containing supplies for class use
  • Ability to learn and understand the flow of dirty and clean dishes to prevent cross contamination
  • Ability to stock and unload shelves and deliveries
  • Ability to perform duties while standing and walking for extended periods of time with the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, and lift up to 40 lbs., including above the head

Responsibilities

  • Completes assigned cleaning tasks, as directed; maintains a clean, sanitary ware-washing area and kitchen (lab) environment.
  • Processes chef's supplies requests to build class carts.
  • Participates in cashiering process for weekly operations and special events.
  • Checks in deliveries from vendors; stocks product in designated storage areas.
  • Maintains a safe environment free of slip and fall hazards; ensures proper use of safety equipment; follows safety instructions.
  • Operates a three-sink washing system and automatic dishwasher to County Health Department standards.
  • Shelves clean dishes in a timely manner to maintain an organized kitchen environment.
  • Completes other duties as assigned, such as assisting with basic food handling and set up for culinary events.
  • Wears proper uniform of black or denim pants and black, non-slip, covered toe shoes.
  • Ability to work additional hours, as needed.
