Job summary

Lafayette County School District's Lafayette Upper Elementary School is hiring a Food Service/Cafeteria Worker to support daily meals and kitchen operations under the cafeteria manager.

Candidates must have a High School Diploma, clear federal fingerprint and child abuse registry checks, and be able to stand long hours and lift up to 50 pounds. This is a full-time on-site role with the district.

Position Description

Reports To: Cafeteria Manager

Description of Position: A food service worker assumes the responsibilities and duties assigned by the cafeteria manager. The employee is supervised by the manager and performs duties such as safe preparation and handling of food, cooking large quantities of certain foods, cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and facilities, serving of food, and other related work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Ability and willingness to follow instructions, either written or oral

Perform efficiently and to the best of his/her ability the duties assigned in relation to the preparation of food, serving of food, cleaning all areas of the kitchen or other assigned duties

Stocking and rotating food supplies and non-food products

Report to work at a designated time and remain on the job until dismissed by the manager

Ability to follow instructions and take initiative in the performance of assigned tasks

Physical ability to walk, stoop, stand, twist & squat on a constant basis

Courtesy and tact in dealing with people

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Must clear a federal fingerprint background check and child abuse registry check
• Must be physically fit and able to stand continuous hours at a time and perform physical work such as lifting fifty (50) pounds frequently

Essential Job Functions

Complete tasks that are assigned by the cafeteria manager.

• Serve food to students and staff.
• Appropriately clean all cooking utensils.
• Effectively use equipment to prepare food as directed.

Assist in total kitchen clean up.

Performs all tasks in accordance with HACCP guidelines.

Other Job Functions

Reports to work at scheduled time with proper uniform & appropriately groomed.

Adheres to all school district rules & building rules & regulations.

Utilizes proper hand washing techniques.

Participates in meetings, training sessions & seminars as scheduled.
