Job summary

NAICA is seeking a Food Service Worker – Tier 1 in the New York City metropolitan area to support daily food handling tasks in coordination with the kitchen and operations teams. Responsibilities include preparing and serving meals, inspecting foods, and maintaining dining area cleanliness in line with regulations.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, a NYC Food Handler’s Certificate by probation, and First-Aid/CPR certification.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year in a food service environment preferred.
  • Food Protection Certificate (Food Handler’s Certificate) from NYC Health Academy by end of probation.
  • First-Aid & CPR Certification by end of probation.
  • Ability to operate kitchen and cleaning equipment and materials used in the facility.
  • Must read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, inspect, and hand out food and beverages for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Manage unpackaged and packaged foods or beverages.
  • Maintain cleanliness in dining area during and after meals.
  • Receive, inspect, and store deliveries of food, beverages, supplies, and related items.
  • Adhere to proper hygiene and sanitation practices while handling food.
  • Operate kitchen, cleaning, and mechanical equipment safely.
  • Assist in compliance with city, state, and federal building codes, OSHA and safety regulations.
  • Attend facility and other meetings as scheduled.
  • Travel to different locations within New York City, as needed.

Title: Food Service Worker – Tier 1Location: New York City Metropolitan AreaReports to: Director of Security and Operations (or Kitchen Manager)Classification: Non-ExemptEmployment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)Role Summary: The Food Service Worker – Tier 1 will play a crucial role in executing daily food handling tasks, collaborating closely with the facility’s kitchen and operations staff to ensure seamless operations aligned with long-term facility goals and compliance with federal, state, and city regulations.Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:The job duties of the Food Service Worker – Tier 1 include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:Preparing, inspecting, and handing out food and beverages for breakfast, lunch, and dinnerManaging both unpackaged and/or packaged foods or beveragesPreparing and maintaining cleanliness in the dining area during and after meals, including walls and tables.Receiving, inspecting, and storing deliveries of food, beverages, supplies, and related items.Adhering to proper hygiene and sanitation practices while handling food.Keeping the food preparation and cooking areas, including refrigerators, freezers, ovens, steam tables, warmers, and pantry, clean, neat, and orderly.Ensuring proper storage and care of food items and supplies.Following established procedures for food disposal and waste management.Assisting in compliance with city, state, and federal building codes, industry standards, and safety regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Universal Precautions.Attending and actively participating in facility and other meetings as scheduled.Maintaining personal appearance, hygiene, and adherence to uniform policies and standards.Safely and efficiently operating kitchen, cleaning, and mechanical equipment in the facility.Skillfully navigating, resolving, and mitigating issues that may arise within the facility.Physical Requirements:Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.Ability to lift, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.Ability to travel to different locations within New York City, as needed.Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:May at times be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays based on organizational needs, deadlines, or events.Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent, and one (1) year experience working in a food service environment is preferred.The following must be obtained by the end of your initial probation:Food Protection Certificate (also known as a Food Handler’s Certificate) from the NYC Health Academy.First-Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (“CPR”) Certification.Ability to operate kitchen, cleaning, and mechanical equipment, tools, and materials used in the facility.Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.Knowledge and experience in interacting with individuals with psychiatric diagnoses preferred.Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and efficiency.Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.Must pass a drug screening test to be appointed.This position may be subject to a series of checks before and/or after appointment.Equal Employment OpportunityNAICA is an equal opportunity employer committed to maintaining a diverse workforce and inclusive work environment.
