Job summary

NAICA in New York City area is seeking a Residential Aide (Tier 1) to support residents and uphold safety and wellbeing within the facility.

You will monitor residents, enforce rules, document incidents, and communicate effectively with staff and supervisors. The role requires strong English skills, the ability to handle sensitive situations, and flexibility for shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Good judgment and timely decision-making.
  • Multilingualism is preferred.
  • Ability to pass drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor facility residents and premises to ensure security and safety.
  • Enforce shelter policies while following staff policies and procedures.
  • Maintain detailed notes in communication logs and document incidents.
  • Provide compassionate assistance and resolve resident questions.
  • Monitor common areas and report safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Assist with preparing units for new residents and coordinating belongings.

Title: Residential Aide (Tier 1)Location: New York City Metropolitan AreaReports to: Operations Manager (or Director of Operations)Classification: Non-ExemptEmployment Type: Full-time (35 hours per week)Role Summary: The Residential Aide (Tier 1) will be responsible for promoting the mission and values of the organization by assisting clients and monitoring their safety and well-being. They will also help enforce compliance with program rules, policies, and procedures, and ensure the facility represents a secure and respectful living and working environment.Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:The job duties of the Residential Aide (Tier 1) include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:Remaining diligent and alert while monitoring facility residents and the premises to ensure the security and safety of all.Enforcing shelter policies while following staff policies and procedures.Performing general administrative functions such as adding detailed notes in communication logs, documenting incidents, and notating resident whereabouts, behaviors and engagementProviding compassionate assistance to residents, addressing their questions, and helping to promptly resolve any issues that may arise.Monitoring hallways, stairwells, parking lots, sidewalks, cafeterias, and other common areas on a regular basis and/or as needed.Strictly adhering to applicable safety, health, fire hazard, and reporting guidelines, policies and procedures.Informing appropriate supervisory and maintenance personnel of any immediate safety concerns.Interacting with onsite security personnel to promote the safety and well-being of staff and residents.Helping empty, clean and prepare residential units or living areas for new residents (e.g., bag and tag personal property).Physical Requirements:Ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, and bend over.Ability to lift, reach, and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.Ability to travel to different locations within New York City as needed.Work Environment / Schedule Requirements:May be required to work past the end of one’s scheduled shift if not relieved by another staff member or expressly authorized to leave by a supervisor.Shifts typically last from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m., 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.May at times be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays based on organizational needs, deadlines, or events.Qualifications:High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.The following must be obtained by the end of your initial probation:Certificate of Fitness for Fire Guard for Shelters (”F-02”) or Certificate of Fitness for Coordinator of Fire Safety and Alarm Systems in Homeless Shelters (“F-80”).Food Protection Certificate (also known as a Food Handler’s Certificate) from the NYC Health Academy.First-Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (“CPR”) Certification.New York State Security Guard License is preferred.Prior experience working in a residential facility is preferred.Multilingualism is preferred.Ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.Ability to assess emergency situations and respond effectively.Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand English for administrative purposes.Must pass drug screening test to be appointed.This position may be subject to a series of checks before and/or after appointment.Equal Employment OpportunityNAICA is an equal opportunity employer committed to maintaining a diverse workforce and inclusive work environment.
