Job summary

Palmdale Regional Medical Center in Palmdale, CA, is hiring a Food Service Worker to provide food and nutritional care for patients across all ages under the direct supervision of the dietitian. You will prepare meals for patients, the cafeteria, and special events, follow recipes and diet orders, and maintain sanitary standards.

A minimum of one year in hospital or institutional food service is preferred, with a high school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• One year experience as a cook or cook’s helper in an institutional food service facility preferred
• High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide food and nutritional care appropriate for all ages under the direct supervision of the dietitian for age appropriate food items.
• Demonstrate knowledge in preparing food and meals for patients, cafeteria, and special function events.
• Follow instructions and recipes to complete satisfactory meals based on patient diet orders and modified diet needs using sanitary guidelines.
• Prepare and service food in a timely, organized, and attractive manner.
• Bake, roast, broil, and steam meat, fish, and other foods.
• Plan cooking schedules and batch cooking to ensure food is ready at specified times.
• Rotate meat, produce, and other items on a first-in first-out basis.
• Maintain neat, clean, and orderly work area.
• Label hot food items for modified diets.
• Assist with tray line service for serving hot foods.
• Report spoiled or unsatisfactory food products to the Supervisor.
• Consult with the Supervisor or Dietitian on matters of uncertainty.
• Report shortages or outdated food items promptly.
• Carve portions of meats, fish, and fowl for individual servings as needed.
• Adhere to correct serving portions.

Position Description

The Food Service Worker provides food and nutritional care appropriate for all ages including infant, toddlers, pre-school, school age, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as prescribed by physicians and under the direct supervision of the dietitian for age appropriate food items.Demonstrates knowledge in preparing food and meals for patients, cafeteria, and special function events. Ability to follow instruction and recipes to complete satisfactory meals based on patient diet orders and modified diet needs using sanitary guidelines. Consistently prepares and services food in a timely, organized, and attractive manner. Demonstrates the ability to bake, roast, broil, and steam meat, fish, and other foods. Plan cooking schedules as well as batch cooking to ensure that food will be ready at specified times. Rotates meat, produce, and other items on a “first-in first-out” basis. Maintains neat, clean, and orderly work area. Labels hot food items for modified diets. Available to work tray line position for serving hot foods. Reports unsatisfactory or spoiled food products to the Supervisor. Consults with the Supervisor or Dietitian on matters of uncertainty. Promptly reports food shortages, out-dated food items, or any food received in poor condition. Carves portions of meats, fish, and fowl for individual servings as needed. Adheres to correct serving portions.
