Job summary

ServiceSource in Washington, DC is seeking a part-time Food Service Worker to assist in cafeterias, delicatessen and bakery areas with food preparation, presentation and serving. You will greet customers, handle orders and help with displays and pricing of foods.

No formal education is required; training is provided. HS diploma preferred and 1 year food service experience is a plus. Weekend and holiday availability may be required.

Qualifications

  • One (1) year food service experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up food on self-serving lines and portion food for individual servings per instructions.
  • Refill cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, juice dispensers, and set up dining rooms.
  • Replace glassware, dishes and silverware and refill condiment containers. Wipe and wash tables and countertops.
  • Clean work area, utensils and equipment; remove garbage; mop floors, walls, windows and tables.
  • Remove dirty dishes, glasses, and silverware from serving counters. Wash pots and pans and kitchen utensils by hand.

Pay: $18.40/hour plus an additional $5.09/hour for Health & Welfare.

Job Summary

The Food Service Worker (Cafeteria Worker) serves as a cafeteria and/or delicatessen/bakery worker helping in the preparation, presentation, and serving of specialty meats, delicacies, preserved foods, cheeses, salads, breads, and sweets to patrons. The incumbent assists in weighing, pricing and wrapping selected foods on plates, trays, and in bags, prepares food displays in counter cases and other display units, greets customers as they arrive at the service counter, takes special orders, and answers basic customer questions about specialty foods.

Primary Duties
  • Set up food on self‑serving lines and portion food for individual servings in accordance with instructions.
  • Refill cold bars, salad bars, pastry cabinets, condiments, juice dispensers, and set up dining rooms.
  • Replace glassware, dishes and silverware and refill condiment containers. Wipe and wash tables and countertops.
  • Clean work area, utensils and equipment; remove garbage; mop floors, walls, windows and tables.
  • Remove dirty dishes, glasses, and silverware from serving counters. Mix washing solutions and operate electric dishwashing machine and wash dishes, glassware, pots and pans and kitchen utensils by hand.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain equipment and work areas, utensils and tables in a sanitary condition.
  • Perform ware‑washing, and keep pot and pan areas in order prior to, during and after meals.
  • Follow correct techniques, cleaning schedules, and tasks.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)
  • No education or previous experience is required. Training is provided.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • One (1) year food service experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Neat, well‑groomed appearance is expected.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Good oral/verbal communication skills.
Physical Demands

The job requires standing, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing. The employee may need to walk and sit occasionally, and lift or move products and supplies up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and usually involves loud noise levels.
