Job summary

Red Rabbit is hiring a Food Service Worker/Packer, In-School in Washington, DC. You will join a small team delivering scratch-made meals to students, handling portioning, packing, and serving in-school meals with attention to safety and hygiene.

The role requires at least 1 year of culinary experience, Serve Safe certification, and the ability to lift 50 lbs. This part-time position offers early hours and a chance to contribute to healthy school meals.

Qualifications

• 1+ years professional culinary experience in a fast-paced role in service, high-volume kitchen production, or schools/hospitals.
• Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
• Serve Safe certificate.
• Food handlers license or certificate is a plus.
• Able to self-motivate and be organized.
• Team player who works calmly in a fast-moving environment.
• Positive attitude and passion for improving nutrition in schools.
• Must read/write in English; bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly.

Responsibilities

• Portion food according to Red Rabbit’s production and PA guidelines.
• Showcase and garnish meals in accordance with Red Rabbit culinary standards.
• Present and distribute meals with dignity to students according to compliance portions and school timing.
• Pack and distribute meals per PA state compliance portions and school schedules.
• Count and track food distributed to ensure accuracy and reduce waste.
• Keep the kitchen clean to exceed DOH standards at all times.
• Represent Red Rabbit’s values and culture with staff and students; be professional and courteous.
• Other duties as assigned.

Food Service Worker/Packer, In-School (Multiple Positions Available)

About the Role

The Food Service Worker/Packer, In-school is a dynamic role and integral part of a 3-6 person team helping to serve and deliver healthy made-from-scratch meals for hundreds of children in their school every day.

The ideal candidate has experience serving children, is reliable, and has a “can-do” attitude. The critical functions of the position include working in partnership with our schools, handing out meals to students, light food prep and helping to ensure the kitchen is always exceeding DOH standards.

Critical Functions

• Portion food according to Red Rabbit’s production and PA guidelines.
• Showcase and garnish meals in accordance with Red Rabbit culinary standards
• Present and distribute meals with dignity to students according to compliance portions and school timing
• Pack and distribute meals per PA state compliance portions and school schedules
• Quickly and accurately count and track the amount of food distributed ensuring accuracy for compliance and reduce food waste
• Ensure the kitchen is exceeding DOH standards at all times by cleaning work stations and cooking equipment
• Represent Red Rabbit’s values and culture when interacting with school staff and students by always being professional, helpful, and courteous
• Other duties as assigned

Skills & Requirements

• 1+ years professional culinary experience in a fast paced role in the service industry (i.e. restaurants), high volume kitchen production (i.e. commissary kitchen), or in a similar cafeteria role (i.e. schools/hospitals)
• Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices
• Serve Safe certificate
• Food handlers license or certificate is a plus
• Able to self motivate and to be organized
• Can function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast moving environment
• Have a great attitude who contributes to a positive working environment
• Share our passion for improving nutrition and health in schools
• Must be able to read and write in English. Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
