Job summary

Red Rabbit in Washington, DC is seeking a Food Service Worker/Packer, In-school to join a small team delivering scratch-made meals to hundreds of students daily.

The role involves patient interaction with students, light food prep, meal distribution, and ensuring compliance with DOH standards. Part-time hours are M-F 7:00 AM–3:00 PM with competitive hourly pay.

Qualifications

• 1+ years professional culinary experience in a fast-paced service role.
• Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Serve Safe certificate is required.
• Food handlers license or certificate is a plus.
• Able to work well in a team and stay organized in a fast-moving environment.
• Read/write in English; bilingual English/Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Portion food according to guidelines.
• Garnish meals and present in line with culinary standards.
• Distribute meals to students with dignity and on schedule.
• Pack meals per state and school requirements.
• Count and track food distributed to ensure accuracy and reduce waste.
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness to exceed DOH standards.
• Represent Red Rabbit values professionally to staff and students.

Job description

Food Service Worker/Packer, In-School (Multiple Positions Available)

About the Role

The Food Service Worker/Packer, In-school is a dynamic role and integral part of a 3-6 person team helping to serve and deliver healthy made-from-scratch meals for hundreds of children in their school every day.

The ideal candidate has experience serving children, is reliable, and has a “can-do” attitude. The critical functions of the position include working in partnership with our schools, handing out meals to students, light food prep and helping to ensure the kitchen is always exceeding DOH standards.

Critical Functions

• Portion food according to Red Rabbit's production and PA guidelines.
• Showcase and garnish meals in accordance with Red Rabbit culinary standards
• Present and distribute meals with dignity to students according to compliance portions and school timing
• Pack and distribute meals per PA state compliance portions and school schedules
• Quickly and accurately count and track the amount of food distributed ensuring accuracy for compliance and reduce food waste
• Ensure the kitchen is exceeding DOH standards at all times by cleaning work stations and cooking equipment
• Represent Red Rabbit's values and culture when interacting with school staff and students by always being professional, helpful, and courteous
• Other duties as assigned

Skills & Requirements

• 1+ years professional culinary experience in a fast paced role in the service industry (i.e. restaurants), high volume kitchen production (i.e. commissary kitchen), or in a similar cafeteria role (i.e. schools/hospitals)
• Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices
• Serve Safe certificate
• Food handlers license or certificate is a plus
• Able to self motivate and to be organized
• Can function well within a team and work calmly and efficiently in a fast moving environment
• Have a great attitude who contributes to a positive working environment
• Share our passion for improving nutrition and health in schools
• Must be able to read and write in English. Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a regular basis

Additional Information

Job Type: Part Time

Typical Hours: M-F 07:00 AM - 03:00 PM

Location: Washington, D.C.

Reports to: Head Chef

Compensation: $18.90 - $19.90/hour
