Job description

Job Objective: Plans, prepares, orders, and serves meals and snacks in various settings.

Essential Functions:

  1. Participate in the preparation and administration of the food service budget.
  2. Prepare menus and meal plans according to the schedule of events.
  3. Prepare and supervise the preparation and serving of meals.
  4. Requisition, inspect, and maintain inventory of foodstuffs, supplies, and equipment to ensure stock levels, minimize spoilage, and meet quality standards.
  5. Inspect kitchen and dining areas, utensils, and equipment to ensure sanitary standards and licensing requirements are met.
  6. Prepare and maintain records and provide reports as needed.
  7. Schedule, train, and supervise kitchen staff, volunteers, and community service personnel.
  8. Participate in meetings and training related to permits and licensing maintenance.
  9. Attend management and staff meetings.
  10. Develop relationships with local churches and volunteer resources.
  11. Report safety and security needs to management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least two years of cooking experience in an instructional setting; prior supervisory experience.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Must possess or be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate.
  • Skills/Abilities:
  • Willingness and ability to work irregular or extended hours.
  • Ability to interpret nutritional communications, recipes, and labels.
  • Ability to work with figures and maintain financial and utilization records.
  • Quality control consciousness.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Maturity to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Supervisory Responsibility: May supervise cooks, dining personnel, volunteers, and community service workers.

Physical Requirements: Ability to work in warm and cold environments, with extensive standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Driving: None.
