The Food Service Worker II performs moderately complex food service work on a designated shift & rotation in the Central Kitchen and/or at a satellite kitchen/serving area under general supervision. Work involves preparing, portioning, distributing, and serving food for regular & therapeutic diets, and sanitation of equipment, work areas, dishes, utensils, pots, and pans. Other duties may be related to the functions of the positions. May train and oversee other Food Service workers. Maintain sufficient knowledge of duties to satisfy the requirements of the position. Handle food according to federal, state, and HACCP guidelines. Follow kitchen and food safety procedures and practices. Willingness to work weekends and holidays, and possibly extended hours, is required. May be required to drive a state vehicle to deliver food to homes.

Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Attend work regularly and work specific or rotating shifts, including extended hours or overtime as needed.
  • Complete required training.
  • Assist in preparing and portioning food for special diets.
  • Prepare scheduled snacks and maintain supply of snack items.
  • Distribute food safely and hygienically.
  • Assist in serving food following proper procedures.
  • Follow food handling, sanitation, and safety guidelines.
  • Receive deliveries and prepare necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain sanitation of kitchen and storage areas.
  • Observe safety procedures.
  • Train or assist in training new staff.
  • Participate in disaster response or Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) activities, which may require shift or location changes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Knowledge of food preparation, storage standards, and sanitation regulations.
  • Skill in operating and sanitizing food service equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and serve food, clean areas, and maintain records.
  • English speaking and reading proficiency.
  • Ability to follow instructions and use basic math skills.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds, bend, reach, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in hot/cold conditions.
  • Sensory abilities: smell, taste, sight.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and residents.
Qualifications and Additional Information

No specific licensure required. Initial screening requires experience in food service, graduation, or work experience. Preferred: 6 months food service experience.

Applicants must pass background checks, drug screening, registry checks, and be at least 18 years old. Flexibility in work hours, including weekends and holidays, is necessary. All employees are subject to random drug testing.
