Job Description

This Food Service Worker position performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, or serving area. This position will support housekeeping services at the Palmer Pioneer Home, a 79-resident senior living facility, located in Palmer, AK.

Responsibilities

• Assists residents as requested with general information, inquiries, etc.
• Obtains products requested by residents.
• Washes objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
• Properly, safely, and efficiently prepares various food products following and observing standard food handling procedures.
• Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans etc., and places in assigned storage areas in an organized manner.
• Maintains a variety of products at certain levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas including service machines.
• Stocks storage areas with various products.
• Cleans, sweeps, wipes down all general dining, kitchen, or storage areas, spike rooms, and equipment, as well as all floors.
• Supports an effective Safety Program.
• Removes garbage from assigned areas, sets up or breaks down tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines, etc.
• Assists with periodically scheduled large cleaning projects.
• Assists cooks and others as needed and coordinates activities with others.
• May occasionally prepare food or cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.
• Performs other duties pertinent to the department or unit's success as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Preference given to candidates with at least six (6) months experience in the food service industry.
• Must have Food Handlers Card or ServSafe within 30 days of hire.
• Some knowledge of proper food service sanitation methods and equipment.
• Must speak, understand, read, and write English.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Indoor, environmentally controlled environment. Moderate noise level. High customer interaction. Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs, sit, stand, walk, handle objects, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, see, taste, and smell.

Proof of being free of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) required during onboarding. No travel required.
