Food Service Worker, Alaska Psychiatric Institute ($18/HR - Anchorage, AK)

The Food Service Worker position performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, or serving area. This position will support the Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) in Anchorage, AK.

Responsibilities
  1. Serve patients with food item selection on the tray line.
  2. Communicate any problems to the cooks regarding the quality or quantity of food being served.
  3. Maintain cleanliness on the line during service.
  4. Restock cold food items such as salads, desserts, and fruit.
  5. Maintain cleanliness of the cafeteria.
  6. Stock storage areas with various products.
  7. Responsible for stock rotation.
  8. Wash objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
  9. Clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc., and place them in assigned areas in an organized and orderly manner.
  10. Remove garbage from assigned areas, set up or break down tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines, etc.
  11. Assist with various periodic and scheduled cleaning projects.
  12. Assist patients and hospital staff as requested with general information, inquiries, etc.
  13. May assist other employees in the food service areas or cooks as needed.
  14. Maintain a variety of products at certain levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas, including service machines.
  15. Regularly unload freight and produce to and from designated storage areas, such as racks and shelves, coolers, and freezers.
  16. Adhere to all sanitation regulations set by Federal, State, and local municipalities.
Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  2. Municipality of Anchorage Food Handlers' Card or ServSafe contingent upon 30 days.
  3. Knowledge of proper food service sanitation methods and equipment.
  4. Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read, and write English.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Weather: Indoors, environmentally controlled.

Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually mild.

Description of environment: This is an industrial kitchen located in a health care setting.

Physical requirements: Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift. Infrequently required to sit, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
