Job Description

The Food Service Worker position performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, or serving area. This position will support the Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) in Anchorage, AK.

Responsibilities

1. Serve patients with food item selection on the tray line.
2. Communicate any problems to the cooks regarding the quality or quantity of food being served.
3. Maintain cleanliness on the line during service.
4. Restock cold food items such as salads, desserts, and fruit.
5. Maintain cleanliness of the cafeteria.
6. Stock storage areas with various products.
7. Responsible for stock rotation.
8. Wash objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.
9. Clean dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc., and organize them in assigned areas.
10. Remove garbage from designated areas and set up or break down tables, snack bars, display cases, and serving lines.
11. Assist with periodic and scheduled cleaning projects.
12. Assist patients and hospital staff with general information and inquiries as needed.
13. Support other employees in food service areas or cooks as required.
14. Maintain products at appropriate levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas, including service machines.
15. Unload freight and produce to and from storage areas such as racks, shelves, coolers, and freezers.
16. Adhere to all sanitation regulations set by Federal, State, and local authorities.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
2. Municipality of Anchorage Food Handlers’ Card or ServSafe certification within 30 days.
3. Knowledge of proper food service sanitation methods and equipment.
4. Must be able to speak, understand, read, and write English.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Indoor, environmentally controlled environment. Usually mild noise level. This is an industrial kitchen within a healthcare setting. Frequently required to stand, walk, handle objects, stoop, kneel, talk, hear, see, taste, smell, and lift up to 50 lbs. Infrequently required to sit, crouch, or crawl.
