Join the Division of Youth Services as a Food Service Worker!

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Food Service Worker to prepare and cook complex menu items in a treatment program for youth under the Missouri Division of Youth Services. This is a second-level position with general supervision, focusing on maintaining high standards of safety, sanitation, and nutrition in a large institutional kitchen.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare major meals and assist in meal preparation, including measuring ingredients, mixing, boiling, frying, and monitoring cooking temperatures.
2. Requisition, obtain, and manage supplies and menu items, ensuring quality and proper inventory management.
3. Develop menus that adhere to nutritional guidelines for balanced meals.
4. Complete reports and correspondence accurately and timely.
5. Maintain safety and sanitation standards by supervising and participating in cleaning activities.
6. Lift and carry large food portions and ingredients as required.
7. Properly store, serve, and rotate food to prevent spoilage and waste.
8. Work long hours standing in a kitchen environment, often in high temperatures.
9. Supervise and work with youth and helpers in food preparation, safety, and sanitation.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Knowledge of standard kitchen procedures and sanitation guidelines.
• Ability to prepare complex menu items and work with automated systems, spreadsheets, and databases.

Minimum Qualifications:

One or more years of experience as a Food Service Assistant with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System, or 1-2 years of relevant work experience. Substitutions may be allowed, including credit hours in related college courses.
