Job Description

The Food Service Worker at Charleston Corrections Work Release supervises inmates to ensure that meal and food items are prepared in accordance with production plans. Responsibilities include training workers, assigning and coordinating work, maintaining sanitation, and ensuring safety standards are met. Responsibilities may vary by location based on client needs.

Starting Pay: $15/hour

Job Responsibilities

1. Adhere to and maintain preparation and production guidelines according to Aramark standards by reviewing and approving logs.
2. Supervise inmates in food preparation and tray assembly.
3. Ensure timely, efficient meal service and compliance with guidelines.
4. Participate in meal preparation and serving.
5. Print and distribute recipes.
6. Train inmates on recipes and proper cooking procedures.
7. Ensure proper portions and dietary requirements are met.
8. Obtain and review daily population counts.
9. Follow security policies; lock storage areas and secure keys.
10. Manage kitchen tools and equipment, ensuring they are returned and secured.
11. Prepare work and sanitation schedules, ensuring adherence by staff and inmates.
12. Assist in inventory management and requisitioning supplies.
13. Participate in meal assembly and storage following HACCP policies.

Qualifications

• Must be over 18 years of age.
• Preferred: 1+ year of food prep or related experience.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Experience with inmates is a plus.
• Ability to motivate and supervise inmates and team members.
• Must obtain a food safety certification.
• Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
• Follow safety procedures and policies.
• Must qualify for and maintain correctional security clearance.

This role may involve physical activity such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, and may require uniforms and PPE.
