Job summary

The Louisiana Veterans Homes is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Food Service Specialist 5 to assist with the management and operation of our Dietary department. This role is vital to ensuring their role in ensuring supervision over basic-level food service preparation duties within the food service operation.

The ideal candidate is a team player, willing to learn, maintain leadership skills, and be able to maintain job requirements in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Three years of food service experience in a food service operation.
• Three years of training in food technology, food service management, or in a food service-related curriculum in a trade school or technical institute.
• Thirty-six semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, food service preparation, home economics, or hotel, food service, restaurant, or institutional management.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect supervision to subordinate Food Service staff.
• Responsible for the final food product and adherence to standards, including sanitation and safety.
• Checks menus for assigned meals and ensures all items needed are in stock.
• Monitors the cleanliness of the food service operation and ensures that it meets all sanitary codes.
• Evaluates the performance of lower-level Food Service Specialists and approves their leave.
