Job summary

College of Southern Idaho seeks a Head Start Kitchen Supervisor to oversee the preparation and service of meals for multiple groups daily. You will supervise an assistant cook and volunteers, and ensure compliance with Head Start/Early Head Start standards, District Health Department and USDA requirements.

The role requires experience with scratch cooking, standardized recipes, and managing a kitchen budget while maintaining sanitary conditions and food safety.

Qualifications

  • Experience preparing meals from scratch and using standardized recipes.
  • Completion of nutrition courses.
  • Idaho Food Handlers Certificate or willingness to obtain prior to start date.
  • One year supervisory experience within the food service industry.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Operate several kitchen appliances such as food processor, dishwasher and can opener.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and perform basic math computations.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Complete criminal record check from Department of Health & Welfare’s Criminal History Unit prior to hire

Responsibilities

  • Treat participants, fellow staff and community members with positive regard.
  • Prepare meals for Head Start/Early Head Start participants following menus prepared by the nutrition consultant.
  • Make menu modifications to reflect the culture of the families served with approval of the nutrition consultant.
  • Make menu modifications for children requiring special diets.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions in the Head Start/Early Head Start kitchen, storage and eating area.
  • Record and monitor meal count in Program’s tracking system.
  • Purchase food and kitchen items in compliance with Federal guidelines while staying within assigned budget.
  • Allocate purchases on summary sheet and bank software.
  • Collaborate with center staff to provide nutrition information, recipes, menus and food safety information to Head Start/Early Head Start participants and staff.
  • Responsible for ordering, shopping, storage and use of food items.
  • Utilize the Head Start/Early Head Start kitchen and eating area as a tool for parent involvement.
  • Participate in an individualized continuing education plan including CPR and First Aid.
  • Prepare food for staff and parent training.
  • Collaborate with education staff to design and demonstrate food experiences in the classroom.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL:
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds in repetitive motion with reasonable accommodation.
