Qualifications
  • Associate Degree preferred; minimum of high school diploma.
  • Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) – must be certified within one year of employment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with students and adult personnel.
  • Able to follow work schedules and work independently without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate aptitude/competence in basic nutrition, quantity food production, sanitation/safety, inventory, personnel management, and record keeping.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to frequently lift a minimum of 50 pounds and occasionally lift over 50 pounds.
  • Job entails lifting, pushing/pulling equipment and food carts as a regular part of the duties.
  • Able to stand and work for long periods of time on concrete and tile floors.
  • Able to complete repetitious tasks with hands.
  • Able to operate light equipment.

Reports To: Food Service Director and Building Administrator.

Job Goal: To prepare and serve students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and warmth.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Supervises and instructs kitchen personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment.
  • Prepares food according to a planned menu, using standardized recipes. Determines quantities of food to be prepared daily. Orders food and non-food supplies and equipment according to established specifications and procedures.
  • Assists in evaluating new products recommended by students, staff, and others.
  • Supervises and assists in the receiving, storing, handling, preparing, and serving food according to established standards.
  • Assures that sanitation and safety practices meet established standards. Enforces standards of personal hygiene and grooming among staff.
  • Maintains a required system of accountability which includes ensuring that daily menu and food production records are prepared; maintaining a system for preparing personnel forms, payroll cards, and accident reports; and maintaining inventory, cost control and filing systems.
  • Plans and schedules work assignments; trains, supervises and evaluates food service staff according to established procedures; and schedules monthly building food personnel meetings.
  • Promotes student and staff satisfaction by merchandising and serving meals in an attractive and efficient manner.
  • Involves students, staff, and community in school food service activities; recognizes the importance of special functions as a public relations tool; and promotes nutrition education activities.
  • Communicates concerns to director about policies and procedures and/or personnel.
  • Directs and assists in preparation and service of meals for special functions and community activities.
  • Implements a professional growth plan for self and staff.
  • Manages the program in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Opens and closes kitchen daily.
  • Prepares kitchen for opening at the beginning of the school year and closes kitchen at the end of the school year.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Food Service.
