Job description

Job Summary

The District Food Service Delivery Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of food, milk, and supplies from the central receiving hub to all school sites within the district. This role is a vital link in our logistics chain, requiring physical stamina, meticulous organization, and a commitment to food safety. Beyond driving, this position is responsible for the organized "put away" and rotation of stock at every delivery location to ensure service continuity.

Core Responsibilities
  • Logistics & Route Management
    • Safe Transport: Operate district vehicles in a professional manner, adhering to all safety regulations and school‑zone speed limits.
    • District‑Wide Service: Execute a daily delivery schedule covering all assigned school sites (Elementary, Middle, and High School) to ensure kitchens are stocked before meal service.
    • Loading/Unloading: Accurately load the vehicle based on site‑specific orders provided by the Dock Supervisor and safely unload at each building’s designated receiving area.
  • Advanced Stock Management
    • Strategic "Put Away": Physically move all delivered items into their appropriate storage environments (Walk‑in Freezers, Coolers, or Dry Storage) immediately upon arrival.
    • FIFO Professionalism: Strictly follow First In, First Out rotation standards—moving existing stock forward and placing new stock in the rear to eliminate waste.
    • Site‑Specific Organization: Adapt to the varied storage layouts of different school buildings, ensuring all items are stored at least 6 inches off the floor and in accordance with health department codes.
  • Food Safety & Accountability
    • Cold Chain Integrity: Prioritize the immediate storage of "Time and Temperature Control for Safety" (TCS) foods to maintain the cold chain from the dock to the site.
    • Accuracy & Documentation: Verify delivered quantities with Site Leads or designated staff. Report any shortages, damages, or quality concerns to the Dock Supervisor or Chef Manager immediately.
    • Vehicle Care: Maintain a clean and sanitized vehicle interior. Perform basic daily safety checks (tires, fluids, lights) and report maintenance needs to the Director.
Qualifications & Physical Requirements
  • License: Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record. (Specific district vehicle certifications as required).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs repeatedly, navigate stairs or ramps with heavy carts/pallet jacks, and work in extreme temperatures (freezers/outdoor weather).
  • Accountability: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining a strict timeline.
  • Certification: Must hold or be able to obtain a ServSafe Food Handler certificate.
P.R.R.R.R. Standard for Drivers
  • Respect the Meals Served: The Driver is the final protector of our food quality. By handling stock with care and rotating it properly, you ensure that every student in the district receives fresh, safe, and high‑quality ingredients.
