Responsibilities
The Department Manager oversees the food service program at a single site, ensuring high standards in food quality, inventory management, food safety, and customer service. This includes adherence to menus, regulations, and policies to deliver quality dining services.
- Lead and support the food service team to meet quality and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of income, expenditures, supplies, personnel, and equipment using HCSG software.
- Conduct staff training, quality control, and in-service sessions; perform roles of dietary aide, cook, and dishwasher as needed.
- Communicate directives effectively to staff from client managers, building occupants, and administrators.
- Ensure safety by using protective gear, handling cleaning solutions safely, and reporting equipment needs or malfunctions.
- Follow infection control, universal precautions, and handwashing procedures to maintain sanitation.
- Maintain punctuality and timely task completion.
- Represent HCSG positively through courteous interactions with staff, residents, and guests.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in food service management or hospitality; coursework in food service or restaurant management preferred.
- Two years of experience in food production/service and supervision preferred.
- Certified Dietary Manager (CDM) certification preferred (or as required by law).
- Must obtain Food Protection Manager (FPM) certification within 14 days of employment.
- Must obtain Food Service Manager (FSM) and LTC-FSM certifications within 60 days.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Positive attitude and effective communication with team and stakeholders.
- Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination policies.
- Ability to lift/carry and push/pull up to 50 pounds, stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to perform routine, repetitive tasks and work around food and cleaning products.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
- May be required to complete sanitation and safety courses.
- Residency within the service area required.
