Job summary

YWCA Charleston WV is seeking a dedicated Food Service Coordinator for the Mel Wolf Child Development Center. The role oversees all center food service operations, plans menus, orders supplies, and ensures meals and snacks meet nutritional standards for infants through after-school programs.

You will supervise kitchen staff, maintain records, coordinate with teachers, and uphold health and safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• One year of relevant food service work experience.
• Office of Child Nutrition training (CACFP) preferred.

The Position

The Food Service Coordinator works closely with Mel Wolf staff and children under the direction of the Program and Assistant Directors. They are responsible for all operations for the center’s food service program. They will provide the supervision, planning, and preparation of all nutritional meals and snacks served to the children and staff while maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the kitchen and cafeteria with the assistance of the kitchen aide.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• One (1) year of relevant food service work experience.
• Office of Child Nutrition training (CACFP) is preferred.

Additional Requisites

• Ability to meet health requirements set forth by State licensing agencies.
• Visual acuity permits the reading of labels, recipes, and other documents, to monitor food preparation and to assure safety and cleanliness in the food service environment.
• Auditory acuity is sufficient to monitor alarms and signals in the food service environment.
• Ability to communicate with children and staff during routine and emergencies.
• Ability and willingness to increase skills and competence through formal and on-the-job training.
• Ability to work well with others, as well as to work independently.
• Work: around moderate noise levels, and can lift, push, or carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Planning of the center’s menus as required by the Center Director.
• Ordering required supplies and ingredients for weekly food service.
• Ensure all purchases align with the center’s monthly budget and are pre-approved by the Director before placing orders.
• Prepare breakfast, lunch, and snacks daily for the center and all the meals for after-school and summer camp students, including field trips.
• Coordinate food service with other program activities.
• Maintain records of food that is purchased and received, including food donations.
• Participate in nutritional education activities and assist the teachers when their classes are doing special cooking activities.
• Assure that food is stored, dated, labeled, and prepared properly.
• Monitor storage and other equipment for safe food preparation and storage.
• Make sure kitchen areas are secured at the end of the day.
• Supervise staff that perform food service and kitchen sanitation functions.
• Maintain an organized and clean environment including daily cleaning of kitchen areas.
• Maintain records as required by the Health Department, DHHR licensing, the Federal Food Program, and the YWCA about food service and the children served; daily, weekly, and monthly.
• Attend training as required by DHHR licensing, the Federal Food Program, and the YWCA.
• Other duties as assigned.
